THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

Young Devils Pile On Pressure For Places

When Salford Red Devils took to the field in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup on Sunday their
line-up contained no fewer than seven players who have come through the Academy ranks
at the Club.
In Niall Evalds, Adam and Jordan Walne, Ryan Lannon, Jake Bibby, Matthew Haggarty and
Josh Wood the Devils showed that their youth set-up is reaping rewards.
Director of Rugby Tim Sheens was keen to point out that this was not just a team of
youngsters sent out against lower league opposition for a run-out. The likes of Josh Wood
now having made four consecutive appearances alongside regulars Evalds and the Walnes.
“It was obviously pleasing to see so much home grown talent on the field at Hunslet but
let’s not forget most of these guys have been playing Super League too. We are not a club
who just buys everybody in, despite what people might like to think.”
“Our player development was an area we recognised needed looking at and hopefully we
can go from strength to strength in this area as we move forward.”
The Red Devils head to the South of France on Thursday to prepare for their game against
Catalan Dragons next weekend.
