WOMEN’S TEAM THROUGH TO CHALLENGE SHIELD FINAL

We can confirm our Women’s team have progressed into the 2025 Challenge Shield final.

After an impressive performance in last Sunday’s quarter-final, Mike Grady’s team were hard at work preparing for the visit of Hull FC in the semi-final.

However, the Airlie Birds are unable to fulfil the fixture and have subsequently forfeited.

That means our girls have a confirmed spot on finals day, set to take place at the Millennium Stadium, the home of Featherstone Rovers, on Sunday 11th May.

What’s set to be an intense afternoon of rugby league will kick-off with the Challenge Plate final at 1pm, followed by our clash with either Hull KR or Swinton Lionesses at 3pm.

An impressive and dominant Challenge Shield campaign has so far seen the Reds score 88 points without reply in wins against Wakefield Trinity and Bradford Bulls.

On reaching his first final in charge of the women’s team, Head Coach, Mike Grady said: “I’m really pleased for the group to have made the final.- the staff, coaches and players have worked hard, and we 100% deserve to be there.

“We haven’t conceded a try throughout the cup rounds and only one in all of our competitive games so far. Couple that with the rugby we have been playing then it’s a credit to how hard the players have worked during pre-season and this final is the reward for that.

“I’m expecting a really tough game whoever we play, we will have to prepare well and be prepared to battle for a full 80 minutes – really looking forward to the day!”

More reaction and preview of next months final to come soon.
