Salford Red Devils are saddened to hear of the passing of former Salford coach Tommy Grainey who assisted Head Coach Kevin Ashcroft throughout the 1980’s.
Grainey, who played for Leigh between 1959 and 1972, coached Warrington and Swinton before heading to The Willows as Assistant Coach to Ashcroft.
Salford Red Devils CEO Ian Blease was one of the players coached by Grainey and remembers him fondly.
Blease tweeted: “I’m sad to hear of the passing of my first professional coach at Salford Red Devils the legendary Tommy Grainey, Tommy and Kevin Ashcroft gave me my debut and taught a young kid a lot about the wonderful game.”
