THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

STONE: “I’M REALLY EXCITED FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS!”

Sam Stone has highlighted a major reason why he’s decided to extend his Salford Red Devils contract.

The back-rower has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal and will continue to play a big role in Paul Rowley’s squad going forward.

“It feels great,” he exclusively told our YouTube channel in reaction to the news.

“I really like the style of footy we play and I think we’re really building to win something big here, so I’m really excited for the next couple of years.”

On the topic of what convinced him to commit his next few years to the club, Stone referenced the style of rugby as a major motivating factor.

“All of the coaching staff have been great and I think just the style we play suits me, I think that’s a big one for sure,” he continued.

“They’re really sharp on all your little skills and all the little parts of the game that make up your good performances.”

There’s no time to dwell on good performances, however, with competition for a Betfred Super League playoff spot getting more and more intense by the week.

Speaking about where he feels his game is at currently, the 26-year-old stated: “I think we’ve all still got places to improve. You’ve just got to keep doing your homework, keep working hard and the good things will come.”

Fellow back-rower and club captain, Kallum Watkins is perfect role model for anyone who walks through the door.

Stone says there’s much more than just stellar performances on the field that players can learn from the highly-decorated England international.

“Even the off-the-field stuff with Kal, you know, he’s really strict on his diet and all his preparation is great, so anything I can take from him on that type of stuff, I try to and he really leads by example,” he concluded.
