Hat-trick hero, Alex Simpson says the team were focused on not underestimating their lower league opposition, Wakefield Trinity, as the Reds booked a spot in the next round of the Challenge Shield.
It was a comfortable afternoon for our women’s side, who scored seven tries on home turf secure a place in the competition’s quarter-final stage.
Three of them efforts came from centre, Alex Simpson, who scored tries number 41, 42 and 43 in the red of Salford Red Devils.
Speaking after the game, Alex reiterated that the girls were focused on the task at hand and producing a professional performance.
“Yeah, it was really good. We said from the get-go that we couldn’t underestimate Wakefield,” she told our YouTube channel.
“It’s all good and well talking about divisions and who is wherever, but at the end of the day, they came out rocking, expecting to turn us over and all we can do is hold the fortress, D-up, try to meet them, and get some points on the board – which we thankfully did!”
Also speaking to us post-match, Head Coach, Mike Grady was quick to mention the zero in defence as a big positive from the game.
He said: “As you said, it was convincing. Defensively, very good, so as a coach, I’m very pleased about that – conceding no tries this week.
“A couple of weeks ago against Sheffield it was only the one try, so defensively it was very good. I think there’s still plenty of stuff we can improve on in attack, so going forward we’ll work on that, but overall very pleasing to get the win.
