Joe Shorrocks is thriving in his loose forward role at Salford Red Devils.
The 24-year-old has so far made eight appearances since joining the club from Wigan Warriors in late-November.
Most of them appearances have seen him operate at 13, with an early-season injury to Ollie Partington allowing a consistent starting run in the team.
“Hopefully anyway!” Shorrocks told our YouTube channel when asked if he feels his performances are just getting better and better.
“I like to think that since the start of the season I’ve been progressing.
“Rowls has given me that role of loose forward and Ollie (Partington) being injured for that time, hopefully I’ve progressed myself as a player as well.”
He has certainly a player who’s become popular amongst the supporters.
One sensational run against Castleford Tigers in Round 7 kickstarted a lightening break, before a neat offload sent Ryan Brierley strolling into the corner.
“That’s why I like playing 13,” Shorrocks continued.
“You’re like the link between the two halves, so you get the ball in your hands more than you would as a prop. That’s what I like to do, that’s how I like to play so hopefully I’m doing alright at it!”
The players have enjoyed a week away from the action following Challenge Cup disappointment, but it’s allowed them to relax and recharge ahead of another tough run of fixtures.
Shorrocks believes it’s just what they needed; “Yeah, it’s been good. Coming off a disappointing result against Cas, I think we needed a nice reset and I think we’ve had that,” he continued.
“A few of the boys have been away, some of the boys have just had a nice rest, so I think we needed it as a team and coming back into the games now, we’ll look forward to them.
Looking ahead to the next few games, he finished: “We’ve got to keep picking up wins.
“I think we’ve done alright so far, but us as a team feel like we can do better. We’ve let a few results get away from us, so going into these next block of games, hopefully we can get a few more wins.”
