Salford Red Devils will launch our 2018 away shirt on Friday 8th December at 8am and in the lead-up we’ll be looking at some old away and alternative kits.
Today we’ll be looking at a range of white away and alternative kits Salford have worn over the years and how our seasons panned out in white.
A white away shirt was worn as early as the mid-1970’s by Salford and the Club donned a white away kit in their 1973-74 Championship winning season. Salford sealed the title away at Central Park with a 21-12 victory over Wigan.
White was the prominent colour on Salford’s 2006 away kit and this was warranted the Red Devils highest-ever Super League finish in the regular season up until last season.
Karl Harrison’s men finished 5th in the Super League but were beaten by Bradford in the elimination play-off. Salford won a handful of away games in 2006 including an away double over local rivals Warrington.
2003 also saw Salford wear a white away kit with the Red Devils finishing top of the Championship before beating Leigh 31-14 in the Grand Final at the Halton Stadium, Widnes.
The 1990-91 away kit was another which was predominantly white but did feature a yellow pattern on the front, back and sleeves and it was a memorable one for more than one reason with the Red Devils losing just a few games on the road that season.
Salford earned promotion after winning the Second Division Premiership Final at Old Trafford against Halifax but their terrific away form was one of the reasons they reached the final. The Red Devils won 14 away games in all competitions throughout the 90-91 season. Salford also featured in the Lancashire Cup final this year but lost to Widnes.
Salford wore a white away shirt throughout 2013 but unfortunately it didn’t lead to success on the field as the Red Devils finished bottom of Super League. The Red Devils won two games on the road in 2013 knocking off Gloucestershire All Golds in the Challenge Cup as well beating London Broncos at The Stoop.
There has been some success in the white away shirt but will our 2018 Away kit be predominantly white?
