Salford Red Devils were unable to get the win at Craven Park, as Hull KR were the dominant team for the full 80 minutes, ending the game 42-0.
A rough start for Salford saw Hull take an early lead whilst the Reds were a man down from a yellow card. Their lead was added to on a constant basis throughout the game, as mistakes from the away side just kept the pressure on.
Round 3 kicked off in the worst possible fashion for Salford, with Jayden Nikorima seeing yellow after a forceful tackle left Niall Evalds needing treatment.
The effects were immediate with Hull KR scoring three back-to-back tries.
Kelepi Tanginoa, fresh on the field in place of Evalds, was first on the scoresheet after bursting through the Reds’ defensive line. Oliver Gildart was next over the whitewash in the far left corner.
Following suit, Tom Davies leapt over the line after a quick pass by Danny Richardson who was called in to kick after Rhyse Martin came off with an injury to his hip.
Salford’s fortune seemed to turn as Nene MacDonald was able to get close to the line. However, Marc Sneyd’s chip kick was knocked out of play by Hull KR.
The Robins achieved a successful Captain’s Challenge after a knock on was overturned as a ball steal by Chris Atkin.
A series of mistakes by the Red Devils allowed Hull to build their lead to 20-0 by half-time through penalty kicks.
Salford’s misfortune continued into the second half as Hull managed to continue their try scoring with Broadbent and Whitehead’s tries. The most devastating of which was Broadbent’s charge between Nikorima and Esan Marsters, straight over the whitewash.
The Reds seemed to have a change in spirit with a great defensive set, keeping the Robins at bay.
This didn’t last long though, as Ryan Brierley’s knock-on when collecting the kick, and Whitbread pushed his side further ahead with his second try of the night, right under the sticks.
Once again, Salford were brought down to 12 men as Chris Hill was handed a yellow card.
Next on the scoreboard was Jez Litten, barging through Salford’s defence to ground the ball. A sixth successful kick by Richardson ended the game 42-0.
