Our Women’s team will lock horns with Wakefield Trinity this weekend, as our Women’s Challenge Shield campaign begins.
It’s a competition that holds fond memories for the Red Devils, as the Shield became the first trophy the team lifted in its memorable inaugural year.
They beat Orrell St. James in the final 20-8, securing the first of two trophies in 2022 – with the League Leaders’ Shield to follow a few months later.
Fast forward three years and a new-look team is ready to attack the same competition in the hopes of picking up the trophy for a second time.
Following yesterday’s action, it was confirmed the Reds will be taking on Wakefield Trinity at the Salford Community Stadium.
The game will kick-off at 2pm on the Community Field, with spectators encouraged to come down and back our girls as we look to secure a place in the next round.
On the task facing his team this week, Head Coach, Mike Grady said: “I’m looking forward to the cup game this week against Wakefield. Like any other game, it’s going to be a tough one with Wakefield having some good results over the last few weeks.
“I’m a big believer in what we do and how we prepare. We have had a good few weeks of training after Sheffield and we have to take that into this game, which promises to be a tough encounter.
“The cup is another chance for silverware and every team will be wanting that and that’s no difference for us.
“We had a great result against Sheffield, but that’s history now and we need to focus, prepare well, and approach this week with the right mentality. Looking forward to it.”
