Salford Red Devils are proud to announce our shortlisting as a finalist for the prestigious Access All Areas Diversity & Inclusion Award for the innovative ‘Red for All’ campaign, raising awareness around colour blindness.
The ‘Red for All’ campaign promotes inclusivity in sport for individuals with colour vision deficiency (CVD), commonly known as colour blindness. The centrepiece of this initiative was a dedicated Colour-Blind Awareness Game, held on 27th July 2024 during the Betfred Super League match against Castleford Tigers at the Salford Community Stadium where a number of adjustments were made to highlight the issues, and ensure that everyone can enjoy rugby league without barriers.
Colour blindness affects 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women, often making it difficult for them to distinguish between certain colours in sport, particularly red (protanopia) and green (deuteranopia). For those with CVD, this can create challenges when watching or playing sports like rugby, where team kits, field markings, and on-screen graphics often rely on contrasting colours.
This recognition celebrates the club’s commitment to pursuing a more inclusive and accessible environment that supports each and every member of our community.
The winners of the Access All Areas Diversity & Inclusion Award will be announced at a ceremony later this year.
