Salford Red Devils are delighted to appoint a new Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and Kitman with Carl Foulstone joining the Club for the 2018 season.
Carl has previously worked with Clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, Yorkshire Carnegie and Huddersfield Giants on internships and is looking forward to life with the Red Devils in his first full-time professional role.
Foulstone said: “My role will mainly be looking after the lads who are rehabbing towards the mid to end stage of recovery.
“I’ll also be assisting Strength and Conditioning Coach Greg Brown with his role in the gym, looking after gameday kit and just making sure everything’s ready and prepped for the lads on game days when they need it.
“I’ve had internships with a few clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, Yorkshire Carnegie and Huddersfield Giants so I’ve been in and around professional sport for a while now but this is my first full-time professional role.
“All my internships were in strength and conditioning and sports science roles. They were a bit of a shock to the system to be fair its difficult applying the actual knowledge you learn in universities to a practical applied setting but that’s got easier over time.”
After working in three different sports Foulstone admits theres a big difference between the training in each and feels the amount of strength training in Rugby League is a lot higher.
He said: “There’s a massive difference in the amount of strength you want in the lads and to be honest some football teams shy away from the strength training and there’s a lot of different methods in Rugby. I can’t see any of the lads here at Salford shying away from strength training though.
“I’m getting to know all the lads a little better now after a few days here which is good and I’m learning names slowly but surely. It’s really good working under Greg Brown he’s one of the best Strength and Conditioning Coaches around.
“I’ve worked under him before and he always gives me a lot of responsibility and advice and its definitely helped me in my roles and I’m looking forward to carrying on my development here at Salford and continuing to learn from him.
“I know I’m going to be kept busy but I’m hoping to enjoy some success here with the lads especially this season.”
