Ryan Lannon has today left Salford Red Devils to join Halifax Panthers for an undisclosed transfer fee, bringing to an end a remarkable 11-year association with the Club.
The 27-year-old has been part of the set-up for practically his entire playing career and leaves after making 104 appearances for the Red Devils.
He joined the Salford academy as a 15-year-old after coming through the ranks at Wigan amateur rugby league, signing his first part-time contract in December 2012.
After spending time nurturing his skills in the academy, he was handed his first-team debut in April 2015 as a substitute against the Leeds Rhinos.
He went on to make 54 senior appearances during his first stint at the Club – scoring 10 tries. Loans at North Wales Crusaders, Halifax and Oldham followed, before he made a permanent switch to Hull KR in early 2019.
It was not long until he returned to the Club – initially on loan – later the very same year, and made his second debut at home to Castleford Tigers on 21st June, 2019.
Bringing up his century against Toulouse Olympique, Lannon made a further 50 appearances in his second spell, scoring one try.
Lannon was also apart of the group that reached the Betfred Super League Grand Final in 2019 and the Challenge Cup final in 2020.
Bidding a fond farewell to supporters, Lannon has said: “I’ve been at Salford since I was a young kid and part of the set-up for a long while now.
“The support and backing I’ve received over the years has been incredible, and it is something I will always appreciate as take on the next challenge of my career. Stay loud and proud!”
Head Coach, Paul Rowley added: “Ryan leaves with all our sincere best wishes.
“He has had a very disrupted pre-season, and as a result, needs to find some confidence and form. The lads and I will be supporting him at Halifax and look forward to seeing him enjoying his rugby and helping them challenge for a spot in Super League.
“He’s a cracking lad who has been a pleasure to coach and I wish him the best of luck going forward!”
Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease has also said: “I would personally like to thank Ryan for the years of commitment and effort in the Red Devils shirt.
“Ryan has been at the club since he was 15 (apart from stint at KR) and he has always been in and around the first-team environment, amassing over 100 first grade career appearances.
“He’s a great character and I wish him well for the next stage of his career – he will be always welcome back to our club!”
