Salford Red Devils and Castleford Tigers fans are invited to Tackle The Tough Stuff with Rugby League Cares on Friday evening when the charity’s tour bus rolls into the The Salford Stadium.
The bus features a fascinating mobile display of rare Rugby League memorabilia and provides an opportunity to learn more about the work of RL Cares and the RL Benevolent Fund, two charities which make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people in Rugby League communities every year.
Rugby League Cares staff including the charity’s head, Chris Rostron, and Player Welfare Director Steve McCormack will be on hand to answer any questions about the organisation, whilst former Salford player Robbie Hunter-Paul will be available to chat about mental fitness.
Robbie is one of a host of retired players who work with Rugby League Cares delivering programmes like Offload and Movember Ahead of the Game that enhance the lives of people young and old.
Rugby League Cares and Salford Red Devils Foundation have been delivering Offload sessions for the last five years and have had an amazing impact on men across the city and the wider Great Manchester area, and Robbie will share some of the tools and techniques that make the programme such a huge success.
The bus will be at the The Salford Stadium from 6pm when youngsters can have their face painted and grab some special Rugby League Cares try cards.
This year over 30,000 young people will take in Movember Ahead of the Game, a programme delivered by Rugby League Cares as part of Rugby League World Cup Mental Fitness Charter that sets out to ensure the stars of tomorrow grow to become as healthy, happy and successful as they can be, both on and off the field.
Rugby League Cares also takes care of the sport’s historical records and collections, which are housed in a state-of-the-art facility within Heritage Quay at the University of Huddersfield, and runs the Rugby League Hall of Fame, which currently features the 28 greatest players in the history of Rugby League.
The Rugby League Benevolent Fund provides critical and lifelong support to players (and their families) who have suffered life-changing injury on the field of play. Whilst it performs a function of RL Cares, it remains independent with its own board of trustees who manage and distribute ring-fenced funds to seriously injured players in both the professional and community games.
