ROWLEY SAYS SAINTS CLASH WAS ‘A TOUGH ASK’ FOR YOUNG SALFORD SIDE

Head Coach, Paul Rowley says his youthful-looking Salford side were bettered physically by opponents, St Helens in yesterday’s Betfred Super League Round 1 defeat.

Due to current restrictions on squad selection, seven of our Reserve grade team were handed debuts at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

However, despite a valiant effort, the quality of Saints’ star players shone through in the end – running out 82-0 winners.

Speaking to the press post-match, our Head Coach paid a lot of credit to the spirit of our young talent, but says the physicality of Saints’ pack was too much for them to deal with.

“It was a tough ask,” he began.

“A bunch of young lads who actually got really excited at the prospect of coming to the most decorated club of the last decade.

“They did absolutely their best, but like I always say – and I said in pre-match, in preparation for this match with our full squad – you need to be physically prepared and ready to apply yourself physically, and obviously there was a difference there and that was abundantly obvious – a huge difference.

“Like I said, I’ve shook everybody’s hands, they’ve done their best and we’ll move on.”
