ROWLEY SAYS HIS TEAM HANDED LEEDS TOO MANY OPPORTUNITIES

Head Coach, Paul Rowley says his team handed the opposition too many opportunities, despite creating a few promising scenarios themselves in the first-half.

In last night’s Betfred Super League Round 7 clash, it was Leeds Rhinos who came away with the two points – largely down to back-rower,  James McDonnell’s four tries.

The second forty was the period where the game got away from the Reds, who had defended heroically in the first-half to repel wave after wave of Leeds attack.

Offering his reflections on the game, our Head Coach said: “I think we created quite a lot of opportunities in the first-half. It’s hard to not look back and say if we had some different personnel, some X-Factor in there then you probably nail a few of them.

“I think overall, if we were going to try and uphold our standards and learn, and get better, we’d probably say completion – we turned over quite a bit of ball in poor areas and give them too much field position, and opportunity that a team like Leeds will always punish you eventually.

“So we gave them the weight of possession, certainly in that second-half. You’re right; the commitment, resilience, all them things are there in abundance, it’s just far from polished.

“We’ll continue to keep driving that and not give up on trying to improve it. We won’t give up on them and they won’t give up on us, and with the fans, we’re all in it together.

“A committed display, but not good enough against a team like Leeds.”
