Head Coach, Paul Rowley was pleased with the performances of Loghan Lewis and Harvey Wilson on Friday night.
The pair made their Salford Red Devils debut in a sensational win against Warrington Wolves, which completed a Betfred Super League double over Sam Burgess’ side.
Nene Macdonald opened the scoring, before Deon Cross added a quick-fire second with a brilliant solo run down the left wing.
Player of the Match, Marc Sneyd increased our lead and Cross notched a second just after the hour mark to make sure of a big two points.
The win was a massive talking point in our Head Coach’s post-match press conference, but there was certainly time to discuss the two debutants.
On Lewis, who made 24 tackles during his 30-minute stint either side of half-time, Rowley was asked for his thoughts on the 21-year-old’s display, and if the Aussie picked up and injury with his last involvement.
“No, I think he just took a heavy collision, but to be fair, I thought he had a really positive debut – a good stint.
“I thought it was just prudent to take him off at that point and finish on a high for him really. We had quite a lot of fresh bodies still eager to get on the field.
“I always wanted to get Gil (Dudson) some more game time at the end, I thought Singo really took a step forward today after his injury, he’s just took a little bit of getting back into the game – so I wanted to get them some more minutes.
“And I thought Shorrocks came on and did a good job too; Shane Wright – I thought everyone had a really good stint today and individually they got a lot out of it, and as staff as well we were able to tick a few boxes with minutes to different personnel.
“I think young Harvey (Wilson) came on for 15 minutes there and had some lovely touches, some quick play-the-balls and some really solid collisions defensively.”
Talking in more detail about Wilson and his place in the team, Rowley continued: “Again, I think things move so quick in rugby.
“I think for him to know now that he’s a permanent fixture is probably settling for him, and then he can really start to embed himself, and apply himself 100% to learning what we’re about, our structures and the way we want to play.
“The moving around has got to be unsettling, but we just hope now that he can enjoy himself.
“We’ve got a good group that are really welcoming. We’ve got good professionals who will spend time and do a lot of homework, and share that work – and they’ll grab him in to do some work with him.
“So he’s come to a good group of lads and I’ve probably said it about ten-times now, we’re fortunate that we’ve got such a good bunch.”
