ROWLEY PAYS CREDIT TO ‘LEADERS’ IN THE SALFORD TEAM

Head Coach, Paul Rowley paid a special tribute to the ‘leaders’ in the team after another battling performance against the Leigh Leopards.

Despite results not going Salford’s way, a depleted and reshuffled outfit has consistently fought for the badge until the very last minute.

Perhaps a prime example came when Joe Shorrocks dotted down our only try of the game. The celebration of the team was only matched by the appreciation of the fans in the stand, who are recognising a heroic effort by the players.

In these tough times, leaders have emerged from the group and carried the rest forward. Our Head Coach gave particular praise to two of them in his post-match press conference.

Reflecting on the past few weeks, Rowley said: “It’s frustrating from a coaching point of view because there are a lot of ‘what ifs’ for us. And it’s frustrating because we want to build and teach, and showcase our DNA – and that’s pretty difficult.

“We’re finding a way though with the players we’ve got and I’ve got to say, we’ve mentioned a couple there, but people like Joe Mellor leading the team today.

“He never fails to amaze me what sort of character he is. He’s an unbelievable guy who is leading us at the minute.

“Jack Ormondroyd stepped up to vice-captain today and again, he’s just thrived in the last six/seven weeks. People step up don’t they in tough times and what a fine example he’s been of a guy with heart, courage and he’s stepped up.”
