All at Salford Red Devils were saddened to hear of the recent passing of our former player and coach, Frank Wilson, aged 80.
Frank made a try-scoring debut for Salford in the 8-5 win at Rochdale Hornets on 1st April 1979, the first of 71 appearances for the Reds, mostly in the centre but occasionally on the wing or at stand-off.
He played in the ‘Centenary’ match against Widnes during October 1979 and was team captain at the start of the 1980-81 season.
After transferring to the new Cardiff City club in 1981-82, his final season as a player, he returned to the Willows as assistant-coach to Mike Coulman during the 1983-84 campaign.
A prolific try scorer, Frank enjoyed a stellar career after joining St Helens from the Cardiff rugby union club in 1968, winning the Challenge Cup at Wembley in 1972 and representing Wales 14 times.
He later played for Workington Town and Warrington prior to joining Salford.
Everyone at the Club sends their heartfelt condolences to Frank’s friends and family at this extremely difficult time.
