Red Devils win crunch match at Fox's Biscuits Stadium

Salford recorded a comfortable win on the other side of the pennines, beating Batley Bulldogs at the Foxes Biscuits Stadium.

The Red Devils came into the game needing a win to secure their place in the Million Pound Game and keep the fight for Super League survival alive.

The Salford Red Devils made the perfect start to the game, with Full Back Gareth O’Brien cutting through the Batley to score, and converting his own try to push Salford to an early 0-6 lead.

Salford doubled their lead just minutes later with Junior Sa’u crossing over on the wing to score, O’Brien again successful with the extras.

Batley hit back at Salford with a try of their own, Reittie going over in the corner to get the home side on the board.

Salford were soon back at the other end of the field, with Weller Hauraki forcing his way over to restore the 12 point lead for the Red Devils.

Greg Johnson was next to add his name to the score sheet, offering a fantastic support run to Ben Murdoch-Masila’s break to score in the corner and mark his 100th career appearance with a try.

With the momentum firmly on their side, Salford continued to put pressure on the Batley line, and were in again through Hauraki, showing some good feet to add his second try of the game.

The Red Devils found time for one more try before half time, with Josh Griffin going over on the left hand side to score and give Salford a 4-34 lead at the break.

It would Batley who made the stronger start to the second half, with Rettie getting on the end of a clever cross-field kick to score his second.

With Batley making good use of the downhill advantage, Salford had a period of the game spent mostly inside their own half, but would eventually score their first try of the half, with Rob Lui linking through the Batley defence to score.

Despite a third Batley try, Salford would finish the game on top, Gareth O’Brien scoring his second of the match, to make the final score 14-42 to the Red Devils.

The results means that Salford will travel to Hull KR next for the Million Pound game.
