Following two more positive COVID-19 cases in the Salford camp yesterday, Salford Red Devils have drafted in two Saints players for this weekend’s clash with Castleford Tigers.
Richard Marshall’s squad is currently a fraction of its original size, with injuries and suspensions also a factor for the head coach to deal with. Under the RFL’s Covid-19 protocols, a club can apply to postpone a match if seven or more senior players are unavailable as a result of Covid-19. However, with the recent chopping and changing of fixtures up and down the league, Salford Red Devils are determined to fulfil Sunday’s fixture against Castleford Tigers.
The Red Devils are pleased to announce Ben Davies has returned on a week-long loan, whilst his St Helens teammate Dan Norman, who plays as a prop, has been brought in for a week to bolster numbers.
Director of rugby & operations Ian Blease added: “As a club we have fielded some flack from certain quarters and individuals due to our untimely Covid outbreak on the back of rearranging our home game against Leeds.
“However, we had been proactive and upfront from the beginning and I am so proud of everyone at the club stepping up to ensure the game against Castleford is being played even though we could cancel and look to rearrange this fixture.
“I would like to thank Mike Rush from the Saints and their respective coaching and backroom staff for working with me and loaning their players in such tight timescales in a very busy period for the game.”
Warrington’s Ellis Robson and Nathan Roebuck are now not linking up with Marshall’s men at the moment due to COVID-19 reasons.
