Salford Red Devils have teamed up with the University of Salford to launch Fan Fit – a new smartphone app designed to help supporters get fit and healthy while keeping up with the news from around the Club.
The app contains a fitness tracker and a league table so that supporters can measure their daily activity and rank it against fellow fans and even Salford players.
It also provides a news and video feed direct to your phone and next season will feature bespoke content from the players and coaches aimed around how to get fitter and healthier.
Red Devils’ Head of Communications Paul McNally said: “It’s been great working so closely with the University of Salford and seeing Fan Fit take shape over the last few months.
“We have a real opportunity here to take up the challenge of getting our city more active and involved. As a professional sports club focused on health and fitness so the chance to get our players and staff going head to head with the supporters is one we are relishing.”
Dr Alex Fenton, designer of Fan Fit and lecturer in digital business from the University of Salford Business School, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to work with great community focused clubs like Salford. We want to create engaging digital experiences for fans around health, fitness and wellbeing.
“For Salford it will work by increasing engagement and loyalty, and for fans it will motivate them to get a little bit fitter.”
Alex, who leads the sport industry collaboration zone for the Business School at the University of Salford, said: “This is a really fun way to help sports fans get fit. It is yet another great example of the kind of work we do at Salford with industry, working directly with our partner clubs such as Salford Red Devils to try to get the best research results we can whilst addressing real health issues and creating real world impact.”
