Biography

In 2011 Tim Lafai made his NRL debut for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs against the South Sydney Rabbitohs and scored on his debut which led to Canterbury’s 28-19 win. In his debut year Lafai played eight matches and scored two tries for Canterbury Bulldogs, and he was named on the interchange bench in the 2011 Toyota Cup team of the year.

In 2012 Tim returned to the Canterbury-Bankstown but suffered a shoulder dislocation which let him only playing in five matches and scored two tries for the Bulldogs in the 2012 NRL season.

Lafai came back to the Bulldogs in 2013 and played in 16 matches, scored seven tries and kicked one goal for the Bulldogs in the 2013 season. On 12th October 2013 Tim Lafai was named in the Samoa 24-man squad for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. Lafai made his Samoa debut against Papua New Guinea, Samoa won this game 38-4 and this played at Craven Park. Tim then went on to playing three matches for Samoa.

In the 2014 season at the Bulldogs, they reached the NRL Grand Final against South Sydney, but the club lost 30-6, Tim played in the Centre. At the end of the 2014 season Tim was the Bulldogs highest try scorer with 14 tries and as well four goals made in 25 matches. He was the later selected for the Samoa international team again for the four nations series.

In 2015 Lafai finished the season having played in 20 matches, scoring five tries and kicking one goal for the Bulldogs. On 11th December Tim signed a two-year contract with St. George Illawarra Dragons for the coming 2016 season. On the 8th October 2016, Tim was then selected for Samoa to play in their historical test match against Fiji in Apia.

In 2017 Tim was given a three-year contract extension at St George due to a good start to the 2017 NRL season. Tim then went onto making 26 appearances in the 2018. St George qualified for the finals, in which they beat Brisbane Broncos Lafia scored a try in there 48-18 win. But the following week they played South Sydney, but St George lost 13-12.

In the 2019 NRL season Lafia was one of the St Georges first choice centres. Tim went on to making 21 appearances in the season.

2020 came around and Tim was released from St George, he then joined his old club Canterbury-Bankstown. On 22nd September Lafia was then released from Canterbury at the end of he NRL season.

On 17th February 2020 Lafai signed for the Parramatta Eel’s for the 2021 NRL season. At the end of the season Lafai was reported to of signed for Salford and was set to play in the Super League.

Tim played in the 2022 Super League season for Salford Red Devils, where he made regular starts in the 13 man squad. He was then selected to play in the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England. Lafia played in the World Cup final against Australia but sadly lost in this game.

He then returned to playing at Salford for the 2023 season and had a storming season in the Super League where he played 19 matches for Salford Red Devils.
