THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

MATCH PREVIEW – WIGAN WARRIORS VS SALFORD RED DEVILS (ROUND 27)

It’s the final game of the regular season, as Salford Red Devils travel to league leaders, Wigan Warriors in Round 27.

Paul Rowley’s side secured a spot in the playoffs last Saturday with a convincing victory over Hull FC, where Tim Lafai scored three of ten Salford tries.

It confirmed a remarkable achievement for the Club, who despite a small squad, have defied all the odds – with some big results along the way.

Last up , but now not our final outing of the campaign is a trip to the World Champions and here is everything you need to know before this one:

SQUAD NEWS

With qualification for the playoffs secure, our Head Coach has opted to give key players a well-earned rest in anticipation of a tough eliminator clash.

Alongside some returning first-team players like Adam Sidlow and Amir Bourouh, there’s plenty of our reserve grade talent looking for a chance to impress.

In there is our Reserves Player of the Year, Charlie McCurrie, whose dad, Steve McCurrie also played professional rugby league – mainly for Widnes Vikings and Warrington Wolves.

Jamie Pye and Kai Morgan has also been recalled from their loans at Barrow Raiders and Halifax Panthers, respectively.

LAST TIME OUT

The final score perhaps wasn’t a fair reflection of our two previous meetings with the Warriors in 2024.

In fact, Matt Peet’s side are the only team to beat the Red Devils at the Salford Community Stadium this season, with the last meeting back in May.

Abbas Miski created the opening chance with a line break and his ball back inside to the supporting Adam Keighran allowed the centre to stroll over.

Back-rower, Junior Nsemba quickly doubled the advantage after barraging through Salford’s line and a controversial green card handed to Marc Sneyd allowed Brad O’Neill to power over for 0-18.

Despite chances for Kallum Watkins and Nene Macdonald just before half-time, it was the former Warriors man, Ollie Partington who got Salford on the board with a powerful finish.

The hosts tried to battle back and certainly had momentum, but a Keighran penalty-goal and Bevan French’s effort, right on the hooter secured Wigan the two points.
