THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

MATCH PREVIEW – SALFORD RED DEVILS VS WIGAN WARRIORS (ROUND 12)

After a short break, Salford Red Devils host the reigning world champions, Wigan Warriors for the second time in 2024.

With a third of the Betfred Super League season now complete, Paul Rowley’s side return home after back-to-back away fixtures against Huddersfield Giants and Leigh Leopards.

The Warriors are in flying form and recently booked their place at Wembley Stadium with a convincing victory over Hull KR in the Betfred Challenge Cup semi-final.

Matt Peet’s men will be the toughest of tasks for Salford, with strike players like Bevan French and Jai Field able to cause problems from anywhere on the field.

All the way back in Round 5 however, the Red Devils showed plenty of heart to come within five minutes of a famous win. Tim Lafai and Sam Stone were on the scoresheet, but two late Warriors tries snatched the two points.

So will it be repeat or revenge? Here’s everything you need to know ahead of this one:

SQUAD NEWS

With a week to rest and recharge, there’s a few changes to the squad for Round 12.

Shane Wright, Joe Shorrocks, Gil Dudson and Joe Mellor are all back in contention after recovering from their respective injuries – a massive boost for our Head Coach.

However, Cade Cust, Jack Ormondroyd, Ben Hellewell and Adam Sidlow are all struggling with knocks of their own and miss out this week.

There is potential to see new signing, Harvey Wilson in action, as the youngster is named for the first time since his move from Wigan Warriors.

LAST TIME OUT

The final score certainly doesn’t paint a fair reflection of when these two sides last met.

Rowley’s side – inspired by another fantastic Marc Sneyd performance – kept a potent Warriors outfit at bay until Liam Marshall’s try just before half-time.

Tim Lafai and Sam Stone fired Salford back into the contest – just after Abbas Miski had extended the visitors lead – but disaster struck just five minutes from the final hooter.

An attempted short drop-out backfired and Jake Wardle took advantage of a bobbling ball to steal the points – confirmed via a Bevan French try shortly after.
