Sam Burgess’ Warrington Wolves are in town, as Salford Red Devils look to continue their early-season momentum in Round 9.
Despite a disappointing result against Castleford Tigers a few weeks ago, a nervy, but important win in the capital last week has placed Paul Rowley’s side back on track.
With five wins from our first eight Betfred Super League fixtures, the team are in a very good position to continue challenging for a playoff spot come the end of September.
Our opposition on Saturday are in a rich vain of form themselves, buoyed by new a new management team and an exciting group of players.
Here’s everything you need to know about our latest challenge:
SQUAD NEWS
There’s some key returnees to the squad this week, at a crucial time.
Missing out on the trip to London last weekend, Sam Stone has made a quick recovery and returns to the fold against a club he scored a dramatic, golden point winner in 2023.
Another big boost is the availability of Ben Hellewell, who has missed a large chunk of the season with a calf problem.
David Nofoaluma is also back in contention.
Earlier this week, it was revealed King Vuniyayawa would face no further action from the Match Review Panel following his red card in Round 8, so is also available for this one..
Brad Singleton and Chris Hankinson remain on the sidelines however, with young hooker, Amir Bourouh added to the injury list.
LAST TIME OUT
Our last meeting with the Wire needs no introduction.
With both teams chasing the final playoff spot, there was plenty of tension and apprehension around the Salford Stadium prior to kick-off.
Warrington took the lead, but the Red Devils soon responded with a brilliant try from Ben Hellewell.
Brodie Croft was also on the scoresheet twice in a back and forth contest, with the scores locked at 20 points apiece going into golden point.
Then, the famous break downfield, where Brad Singleton’s cut-out ball and Tim Lafai’s tip kick-started a Joe Burgess charge down the left.
He stepped Josh Thewlis and threw a pass inside to the supporting Sam Stone, who slid over in front of a jubilant South Stand.
