THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

MATCH PREVIEW – SALFORD RED DEVILS VS WAKEFIELD TRINITY (BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE ROUND 23)

With just five Betfred Super League games remaining, Paul Rowley’s side face Wakefield Trinity in Round 23.

After a period of tough results, Salford Red Devils returned to form in style last Friday, with a resounding victory over Huddersfield Giants.

Ryan Brierley, Sam Stone, Ken Sio and Chris Atkin were all on the scoresheet at the John Smith’s Stadium, where two crucial points edged us back into the winner’s circle.

This weekend’s opposition – despite sitting rock bottom – will be no pushovers, as we found out back in June, when they came out 32-6 winners at the Be Well Support Stadium.

With key bodies now fully integrated back into the squad after injuries, rhythm is slowly returning – maybe at the most crucial point of the season.

Here is everything you need to know before this one:

SQUAD NEWS

An unchanged 21-man squad.

That’s something Paul Rowley has rarely had the pleasure of naming across 2023, but it must be a welcome boost at such a crucial time.

Here is the personnel available for today’s clash:

ROWLEY’S PREVIEW

Previewing today’s clash, Rowley was quick to remind everyone what happened the last time we met back in June.

When asked how different it is to prepare for an opposition who are desperate for points, he said: “I think the teams at the top are where they are because they’re consistent; so in terms of preparation, there is familiar traits that are repeated time and time again, to a high standard.

“The difference in dealing with Wakefield; they’ve had a lot of different personnel and they’ve been inconsistent as well.

“But from past experience, we have been well-beaten by them on one occasion, and then we got a golden point win on another.

“It’d be foolish to disrespect Wakefield and it’s something we won’t be doing.

“On paper, they’re a quality side, they’ve got a lot of good personnel, they’re a healthy squad and they’ll certainly be very motivated considering the predicament that they find themselves in.”
