MATCH PREVIEW – SALFORD RED DEVILS VS HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS (BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE ROUND 7)

Salford Red Devils are looking to bounce back from defeat when they face Huddersfield Giants in Round 7 of the Betfred Super League.

Paul Rowley’s men are nearly a quarter of the way through the regular season, but with some unpredictable results all over the league, three wins and three losses means the Red Devils are sat in fifth place.

Despite scoring two fantastic tries and looking solid in defence in last Friday’s Round 6 clash, Bevan French and Toby King scored two late tries for Wigan Warriors to snatch two competition points.

There were plenty of positives for the Head Coach to take into this fixture; albeit a totally new challenge against the Giants, who have started the season with two wins and three losses.

Here’s everything you need to know before this one:

SQUAD NEWS

Paul Rowley has named a 19-man squad to take on the Giants this afternoon.

After an intense and brutal 80 minutes against Wigan Warriors, three players have picked up lengthy injuries.

Tim Lafai – who was a doubt for last Friday’s fixture already – has suffered a hamstring injury and is expected to be out for an extended period of time.

Adam Sidlow and Amir Bourouh are also out injured, with the latter needing shoulder surgery to fix an issue he picked up against the Cherry and Whites.

However, the return of Andrew Dixon and Ben Hellewell will be a huge boost to the squad with already such limited numbers.

ROWLEY’S PREVIEW

Ahead of the game, Head Coach, Paul Rowley faced the media to answer questions on some injury concerns, how his squad are shaping up six games in, and how they plan to deal with a stubborn Giants side.

Rowley, speaking about today’s opposition, has said: “They’re a typically tough team, as always. In contrast to us, they’ve got quite an embarrassment of riches, but they’re a really good team and we respect them a lot for how they go about their business.

“They obviously value territory and possession, and are very, very good at it. People like (Jake) Connor and (Will) Pryce, Tui (Lolohea), who are strike players, can take advantage of that possession and territory.”

“It’s a bit like Wigan in that respect; that you can’t shy away from the battle because you’re going to be in one no matter what – so we’ve got to take it head on!”
