THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

MATCH PREVIEW – HULL FC VS SALFORD RED DEVILS (ROUND 26)

Salford Red Devils can math mathematically secure a place in the top six this weekend should they beat Hull FC and other results go their way.

It’s the penultimate game of a long, demanding season for Paul Rowley’s men and they stand on the brink of a remarkable achievement.

A huge two points against Catalans Dragons last Saturday pushed the Reds back into fourth place and two clear of seventh. Should we secure victory at the MKM and one of Leigh Leopards, St Helens or Leeds Rhinos lose their respective fixtures, qualification for the playoffs will be confirmed.

Here’s everything you need to know about our trip to West Hull:

SQUAD NEWS

There’s two changes to our Head Coach’s 21-man squad this weekend.

One name supporters will be excited to see back is Aussie prop, Loghan Lewis, who has taken to life in England by storm.

Picking up Hitman of the Year at our annual Awards Evening, it’s clear he’s a popular figure amongst the supporters and his recovery from a groin problem will be a huge boost to the team.

Ben Hellewell, who recently penned a one-year contract extension at the Club, is also back in the fold.

Sam Stone and Amir Bourouh drop out, with the former struggling with an injury which forced him off early into last Saturday’s contest.

LAST TIME OUT

It was all the way back in Round 16 when we last faced the Black and White’s.

A closely contested opening 25 minutes was broken by the free-scoring Deon Cross, as Ryan Brierley’s cut-out ball set him away in the left corner.

Ben Reynolds hit back almost instantly for FC, but a Tom Briscoe yellow card on the stroke of half-time spelled trouble for the visitors.

On his return to action, Brierley scored a terrific try, leaping over Logan Moy to fire us back ahead. Chris Hankinson then put further pain to the 12-men of Hull by scoring on the right edge.

Marc Sneyd’s kicking – as ever – was crucial and despite Denive Balmforth and Jordan Lane scoring in quick succession to narrow the Salford advantage, some resilient defending late on secured the two points.
