We are thrilled to reveal Mark Moran has been appointed Head of the REDS – Reds Elite Development Squad.
Involved since the REDS’ inception in 2021, Moran is well-versed in the set-up, but will now take-on a greater role across 2024 and beyond.
He has taken over the responsibility from Chris Irwin, who has recently moved into the club’s commercial department after two successful years in the REDS role.
Mark will now oversee the pathway of our players from u16s through to u18s and then – hopefully – into the club’s reserve grade structure.
It also means he will be working closely on our partnerships with Loughborough University, our Welsh RL pathway; including the relationship with Coleg y Cymoedd, and the Welsh Rugby League Academy.
In reaction to making the step-up, Mark has said: “I am delighted to lead the Salford REDS Elite Development Squad and build upon the outstanding work accomplished in recent years.
“Establishing a high-quality Player Pathway program is vital for young players aspiring to represent the club in Super League.
“My focus is on creating the right structures within the pathway, ensuring our players have the best opportunity for growth, both as rugby league players and individuals.
“A key priority is nurturing local talent from Community Clubs and players from our Welsh partnership to facilitate their transition onto the pathway!”
Director of Rugby & Operations, Ian Blease has added: “I would like to formally welcome Mark into his new role at the club. I know he will be a great choice and I have every faith in his delivery of our REDS pathway.
“Ever since I came back to the club in 2016, the youth pathway – supported by our Supporters’ Trust memberships – has always been a strategic ambition for the club to become more successful.
“Chris has provided an excellent platform for Mark to continue this very important process, and he will play a major part in our build-up to our re-application for an Academy at the club, in 2024!”
