It’s time to select March’s Player of the Month.
Amidst a turbulent time off the field for the Red Devils, the players on the field have performed heroically in tough circumstances to keep us competitive in both league and cup competitions.
In March, three Betfred Super League games were sandwiched on either side of a Challenge Cup last-16 tie with Bradford Bulls.
Following a disappointing defeat against Castleford Tigers at the Jungle, the Reds bounced back with two excellent back-to-back home victories against the Bulls and Huddersfield Giants.
With a multitude of enforced changes, World Champions, Wigan Warriors inflicted a heavy defeat at the Brick Community Stadium to close out the month.
However, across the four matches there were three standout performers.
Starting with Jack Ormondroyd, who has played long minutes in the middle, with a mix of injury trouble and the sustainability cap hampering our forward pack.
His front-foot performances have set a good platform for our backs to play their game.
Jayden Nikorima, now into his first full season with the Reds, has taken the reigns at stand-off and started to show some of that electric quality the coaching team must have seen in the 28-year-old.
After a try-scoring performance against Bradford, Nikorima backed it up in our next home outing, picking up Player of the Match in our 23-10 victory over Huddersfield.
Finally, new signing, Chris Hill has hit the ground running in a red shirt and, like Ormondroyd, has played long, often 80-minute displays in the middle, and at loose forward.
His ability to pierce a defence line and flick an offload has become a potent weapon for Paul Rowley’s side; showcased when he sent Harvey Wilson racing clear for his effort against Huddersfield.
