We are delighted to reveal Marc Sneyd and Nene Macdonald have been selected in the Betfred Super League Dream Team for 2024.
The pair have enjoyed stellar individual seasons and have now been recognised for their efforts amongst the league’s best.
Salford Red Devils secured playoffs with a game to spare and will take on Leigh Leopards in the eliminator at the Salford Community Stadium next Friday.
But before that, our two, star performers will receive their Dream Team t-shirts on Monday afternoon and will be presented to the media at the Super League’s playoff launch.
Starting with the inclusion of Sneyd, who is possibly playing the best rugby of his entire career and will surely be in contention for the league’s coveted Man of Steel award come October.
He was afforded a rest in Round 27 with the Red Devils already securing a playoff place a week prior, but before that, his total of 210 saw him sit joint first with Mikey Lewis on the points scored charts, before the KR halfback picked up a further six on Friday night.
Those points were accrued via three tries, 97 goals and four field goals. In the final two categories, Sneyd sits top of the tree across Super League, with Rhyse Martin his closest competitor from the kicking tee (87).
His goal-kicking percentage of 89% is by far the best of the regular takers across 2024 and ranks high amongst the percentages of Super League season’s gone by.
A threat with the ball in hand and off his golden left boot, Sneyd has notched 22 try assists across the campaign and is only bettered by Mikey Lewis (23) and Lachlan Lam (24).
In fact, 16 of his assists have come from the boot – a league high – and his total of three 40/20 kicks comes only second to Danny Walker (4).
Prior to Round 27, Sneyd ranked almost 4000 ahead of his competitors in terms of kicking metres and 25 times it has led to an opponent conceding a drop-out.
The stats tell one story, but our star halfback has been at the centre of every big moment for Salford this season and his inclusion is more than justified.
From one big game player to another, Macdonald has made a home away from home at Salford, forming a connection with the fanbase that saw him pick up Supporters’ Player of the Year at our annual awards evening.
His 12 tries are only matched by Deon Cross at Salford and a further three try assists sit him on a total of 15 contributions across 2024.
But it’s his running stats that really tell the story of where Macdonald has made such a devastating impact.
His run metres total of 4636 and a rate of 11.43 metres per run sees him sixth across the league, but it’s his post-contact metres that makes the most impressive reading.
He only sits behind Ryan Hall in terms of total of post-contact metres (1939.6) and his rate of 80.82 per game is the best in Super League.
Salford have gained 430.4 metres across the season from Macdonald’s 48 offloads; a total that’s not touched by anyone in England.
The inclusion of Marc and Nene in this season’s Dream Team becomes our 6th straight year of representation in Super League’s end of season standout line-up.
