Loghan Lewis says his move to Salford Red Devils has surpassed any and all expectations.
Raring to go for his first full season in red and white, the Aussie’s infectious energy has already formed what felt like an instant connection with the Salford faithful.
So much so, he was voted 2024’s Hitman of the Year, despite only making 11 appearances since his move from NRL side, Canberra Raiders.
“Words couldn’t even explain how crazy it was,” he told us, reflecting on his move to the Red Devils.
“Obviously the last three, four months at Salford were unbelievable, but I ended up one part of the year in Canberra and then the next part in England, which was pretty crazy.
“I don’t even know what I expected to start with, but it’s been beyond anything I expected by a lot!”
Lewis is someone who wears his heart on his sleeve. His natural character meant the transition – which could be daunting for such a young player – was almost seamless.
After just two appearances at the Salford Community Stadium, he was already grabbing a supporters drum in the South Stand and ramping up the atmosphere.
The Aussie credits his teammates – as well as the supporters – for making such a big move, so easy for him. “Probably the fans as well as the boys,” he responded.
“We’ve got a tight-nit group, I’m sure a lot of people have shown how tight we are in a social aspect, as well as on the field.
“And for the fans to welcome me the way they did – especially only after a few games with them – made me feel at home really easily.”
On the pitch, Lewis has showed plenty of promise with his no-nonsense style, something he references when asked why he believes the supporters took to him straight away.
“I think it’s my play style. I give everything on the pitch and put my best foot forward every time I make a run, or make a tackle and I think they appreciate the little things.”
It’s been a flying start to life at the Reds, but for someone so young, Lewis has a very mature outlook on his game and knows there’s still plenty to come.
When asked where he thinks his game can improve, Lewis stated: “Probably everything to be fair. I know we’ve got some veterans in this group – Singo and Hilly, and those lot, so I’ve been picking their brains and try to learn all the ins and outs of the game as much as I can.”
One things for sure, Lewis’ passion for the game will remain just as strong throughout 2025, as he looks to really establish himself in Paul Rowley’s squad.
