THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

KALLUM WATKINS “I’m looking forward to working with the lads some more”

Salford Red Devils’ latest signing Kallum Watkins, has given his thoughts following his first day training with the team.

The England international joined the rest of Ian Watson’s squad with immediate effect, following his announcement on Monday.

Watkins said: “Training’s been really enjoyable.

“I thought I might struggle a little bit, but I’d done a lot of training by myself before then, so that’s helped me a lot.

“I’m looking forward to working with the lads some more and obviously playing alongside them.”

The 29-year-old also gave his verdict on the coaching setup at his new club.

“I went and met Watto and Greg Brown a few weeks back and had a really good chat with them,” said Watkins.

“It sounded exciting to me and I know what Ian Watson has done for the club has been great.

“He coached my brother, when my brother was at Swinton, and I’ve always had good wraps on him as well – I’ve always heard positive things.

“I know the team’s goals and what they want to achieve. That’s something I want to be involved in.”

Following the arrival of the former Salford season ticket holder and ball boy, the head coach gave his assessment of the signing.

Watson said: “Being a local lad, Kallum will be embraced by the Salford supporters and I’m sure over the next few years he will prove to be one of the Club’s best signings and it will show a real intent, not only for the remainder of this year, but in 2021, where we should have a phenomenal back line.”

Salford Red Devils have offered businesses a chance to take a place on the shirts of Watkins and his new teammates throughout the 2021 campaign, for just £750.
