Director of Rugby and Operations Ian Blease has hailed the Red Devils support with over 1200 fans travelling to the John Smith’s Stadium on Friday evening to watch Salford get the season off to a 14-34 winning start against Huddersfield Giants.
Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease, said: “I have to say the Salford Red Devils fans were absolutely outstanding on Friday evening.
“To see over 1000 Salford supporters, make the trip up to Huddersfield in those adverse weather conditions was extremely positive and is a real testament to how brilliant they are as a group of fans.
“They made some terrific noise throughout the game and I truly believe their support helped the lads push through to victory. At one point the game was level at 8-8 and the fans really got behind the boys and I have no doubts that this galvanised the boys.
“It is even more promising that a large majority of these fans purchased their ticket in advance from the The Salford Stadium meaning that Salford Red Devils retained 25% of each of their purchases.
“It was great to see so many supporters promoting this on social media in the lead-up to the game as well.
“I think this massive turnout for our first away fixture is just an extension of the fantastic support our fans have shown the Club in recent months buying their Season Tickets with many also joining our Squad Builder initiative.
“We, as a Club, can’t stress enough how crucial it is that the fans get behind us this season by purchasing their Season Tickets if they haven’t done so already ahead of this weekend’s massive home opener against newly-promoted London Broncos.
“I know that we are actively reaching out to supporters – via phone calls, texts, E-Mails and direct mail – who have lapsed from watching the Red Devils in order to try and get them to come back and watch Salford on a regular basis.
“I’m hoping to see a big crowd and good walk-up from those fans who have drifted away over the years at the The Salford Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
“As I’ve said, the fans make a real difference and when they make that noise it definitely lifts the players on the park.
“The team we have built is strong and will play an exciting brand of rugby and if this City gets behind them from the first home game & onwards then who knows what we can achieve this season!”
