Pre-game today at the Salford Community Stadium, the Salford Red Devils Foundation will be hosting the annual Salford 9-a-side High School Finals.
Schools have had to go through various qualifying rounds during the academic year to get themselves into today’s finals. Kev Raynor, alongside the SRDF, has been delivering the Salford Schools’ finals for many years.
Recently the finals have been held away from the stadium, but with the men’s Betfred Super League fixture vs Huddersfield Giants falling on a Thursday night, it seemed perfect to bring the finals back to the Salford Community Stadium as part of the pre-game entertainment.
The Year 7 & Year 8 finals will be held on the 4g astroturf next to the grass community pitch outside the stadium. The Year 9 & Year 10/11 finals will be held on the grass community pitch.
The format for the finals is round-robin-style tournament where everyone plays everyone and winners are determined by wins and points scored.
Winners of each age group will be invited to the main pitch at half-time of our men’s Super League game for a lap of honour with their individual trophies.
At Half-time we will also see the Year 8 & Year 9 teams who didn’t take the trophy on the main pitch for a friendly fixture.
Congratulations to all the schools who have made the finals today!
