THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

ETHAN RYAN SAYS ITS ‘ONWARDS AND UPWARDS’ FROM HERE

Ethan Ryan says that the Red Devils are only going to move forwards from this point after two consecutive wins.

With their victory over Huddersfield Giants last night, the Reds have their first points of the 2025 Betfred Super League season.

It was Ryan’s second game back after injury and it’s been a good return for him so far: “I had couple of ops in pre season – one expected, one unexpected – so it was just about sort of getting back fit and getting back into the swing of things,” he said post-match.

“Obviously, we had Bradford last week and then the first bit of action back in Super League today as well.”

His return came with a lot of prep to get him back to match fitness: “We built back to game fitness, what I needed to do and it were a thumb injury I had.

“I had the pins out and, along the full injury, I wasn’t able to run and stuff so my game fitness, obviously game fitness is different to normal fitness, but I think getting back into these games now, I’m probably not 100% but surely getting there.”

Jayden Nikorima was awarded Man of the Match after scoring two great tries. Ryan said that this his performance ‘just showed his danger running the ball’.

“He can play and he can back up and press through the middle to get his rewards under the sticks there. So, yeah, he’s becoming a real good all-round player and he’s fitting in really, really well here,” the winger continued.

After an unfortunate start to the season, Salford seem to be turning things around. Ryan has a positive outlook on his side going forward: “We’ve got a squad who, obviously we had a couple players leave and that, but we’ve got a squad that adapt and find a role – and find the role well.

“Everyone knows what they need to be doing and that was just a great example of it tonight. We had people in places, not that they’re not familiar with, but that they might not have played minutes there until last year.

“So, I thought they were great and the half backs were great – they really set the tone for us.

“It’s been a bit of a rough start, not one that anybody’s wanted. We won in the Challenge Cup last week and got points on the board in Super League, so it’s onwards and upwards from here.”
