Women’s Head Coach, Mike Grady and star player, Anna Dennis gave their post-match reactions to a BIG victory in the race for the playoffs.
It’s a victory which leapfrogs the Reds above Swinton Lionesses into fourth and into the elusive four who will compete for a chance of Super League promotion in September.
The win, courtesy of Lauren Ellison’s last-minute try, sets up a thrilling final day of action when the girls travel to face Cardiff Demons in a fortnight’s time.
Unless a huge swing in the points difference, a win against the side currently sitting in second will secure Salford’s place in the semi-finals.
Back on the Oulton win, a relieved Grady told us: “A tough game. We were resilient, we were committed, we worked hard. We’re going to get games like that, but fantastic that we got the win in the end.”
“Immensely proud,” when asked how he would describe the performance, “You’ve taken the words out of my mouth, the words that I’d use. We’ve got a really talented bunch, a bunch that works hard, a bunch that is committed. I couldn’t be more proud of them at the end.
“It’s what we needed, it was a fantastic effort from everyone, every individual played very well, and it was some effort as well, so really proud.”
The star of the show was fullback, Anna Dennis, who has enjoyed a stellar debut season with the Red. Ellison’s try was made by our number one, who displayed a classy piece of skill to chip over the defence, collect the ball and offload to her supporting teammates.
Describing her thoughts in that moment, Dennis said: “I just thought we needed something to happen, a little break!
“The fullback was deep. They had no fullback at the start, so I debated sending it, but it was too much risk, but it was on, and then Lobby (Louise Fellingham) is always there to back me up. I can never get that pass right, but she was there and it worked.”
