Sam Davis is hoping to strike up a partnership with fellow hooker, Joe Mellor this season.
The 25-year-old joined the Red Devils in early October after a impressive debut Betfred Super League campaign with London Broncos.
Leicestershire-born Davis has spent virtually his entire career down south, but is excited by the prospect of playing for a ‘top six team’ in Salford.
“Massively. To be able to stay in Super League was a massive opportunity for me and something I worked hard on last year to get the opportunity to do that,” he told our YouTube channel.
“Obviously to be a part of Salford, being a top six team, is massive for me.”
On enjoying his time in the top flight, he continued: “That’s it, I just took every game as it came and gave it everything, no matter who I was up against. I just ripped in for the lads next to me and enjoyed every minute.”
“Just effort really,” he said when asked to describe his play style, “Trying my best, I like to hit hard and work a lot around the tackle. When I get the chance, obviously everyone wants to attack and run the ball.”
Fan favourite, Joe Mellor was a big stand out for the Reds last season with his performances at nine – an unnatural position for the 34-year-old halfback.
Davis is looking forward to picking his brains and think their respective skillsets will hopefully strike up a neat partnership in 2025.
“Definitely. Joey has been around for a while now and he’s very experienced, so it’s good to pick up little bits like that,” he said.
“I think the way me and Joey both play nine is a very different style and it’s a lovely contrast, so hopefully we can work off each other this season.”
